how does your gp handle

almost got in a wreck today- dumb woman on her cellphone in her tahoe came into my lane. long story short i ended up in oncoming traffic in the middle of rush hour. if it were not for the excellent handling of the car- braking and steering, my car would be totalled. anyone else have good luck with their car in time of crisis?

Bummer! Sounds like a close call. Don't you just hate those people driving 5000 lb vehicles that jabber on their cell phones oblivious to the world around them. It is irresponsible.

The worse situation I recall was when I had to take evasive action to miss a big piece of retread tire (alligator) left by a 18 wheeler on the freeway. The person behind me wasn't so lucky and hit it.

Once on my way to school, I got into the right lane to get away from someone doing 35 in a 55, and there was a truck stopped dead in the right lane, so I took a turn into the drive way at about 45-50...it took it, but, with a decent amount of... "oh sh*t" but..the brakes and steering saved me...

GP's are not the most nimble, I've driven a lot of cars for my age, but, I love my GP...and i wont get rid of it unless I get anther GP, or a nice Trans Am...

I had a close call like that, but with a pickup truck carrying logs on the highway. good thing it was early in the morning, i was probably 6 car lenghts behind this guy and one of the logs just bounced out of his truck, i never left yaw marks on the highway before, and never has ABS kick in in dry pavement. these cars handle amazing on dry and snowy conditions. I especially like these cars in the winter, they got that heavy backend or something, just keeps em planted. oh and i have a 2000 SE with the 3.1.

ya i have drive trucks, ricers, and stangs, but i was most impressed with my gp for a stock car. i have the gt, with no extra suspension or brake mods

I don't have a lot of basis for comparison because I'm a former pickup driver before I got my 97 GP SE, but I did have one close call where the car handled remarkedly well.

I was getting off a highway going north to get on another highway going west. The highway I was on goes under the other highway and then loops back around to the left to head west. In that loop, which is basically a 180* loop that then straightens out there are two lanes.

I was in the left lane and there's a concrete barrier on the left side so you can't really see ahead of you to see if the traffic is backed up at the metering light. Well the traffic was backed up and it was backed up right at the end of the loop so when I came around the corner doing about 55mph the traffic was solid in the left lane but open in the right.

I hit the brakes and quickly realized there was no way I was going to stop in time without rear-ending the car in front of me so I slid into the right lane and fortunately the other car in the right lane was ~150 ft. back.

This all happened with less than stellar tread depth Bridgestone RE910's (I think that's what they were). I now have Bridgestone G009's which I am very impressed with considering their price.

had an incident last week where i was traveling thru an intersection and noticed that an idiot running the red light and was about to t-bone me on the drivers side. being used to driving rear wheel drive vehicles i hit the gas and turned towards the direction he was coming from hoping to move forward enough and spin the rear of the vehicle out of his way. instead of the rear end flipping around, the gp with it's front wheel drive went into a powered four wheel drift. i ended up hitting the curb, bam bam, passenger front tire first followed by the passenger rear tire. bent both rims, and jammed the tie rods thru their adjusting collars.

the outcome was good. no t-bone or resulting body damage or personal injury, i missed hiting the traffic light standard, and the damages are under $300 bucks... could have been much worse.

IMHO front wheel drive vehicles do not give you the same level of responce and handling that a properly balanced front engine rear wheel drive vehicle will.

I'm on I '84 E in the left lane, doing 70 in a 65 around a bend, when a semi pulls into my lane, totally not noticing me.

No combo of lights or horn was working on this guy, so I punched it and moved off the shoulder into rumble strips, trying to wake the guy up.

I ended up blowing past him, pounding the strips doing 85+.
Only at this point does he swerve back! Unfortunately no-one saw me pull the James Bond move

my gp feels tight well ofcourse it has understeer but thats whats the parking brake for right? well i was going down the 990 and i get cut off the guy he didnt see me he was like 6 inches from my bumper so i spike the brakes and all wheels lock i begin a 4 wheel drift so i counter steer like hell and straighten it out before flying into the grass median (this was done during rush hour at 65-70mphwith slick roads) im glad that it was very responsive or i wouldnt be driving a gp nemore
