multiple problems with my at the same time

Okay well my car took a shit on me. the other day i was driving and all of a sudden the power steering went out, the heater went out and blows nothing but cold air, and the car started to rev up and down. I drove it around a little and at idle it revs at about 1500 rpm, the lights were also starting to get dim. It alsmot seems as if the car is going to die out on me. Before this all happened i started to notice a few things. When i open the drivers side door, the lights in the car would not turn on, but when the passenger side door is open the light turn on. I just thought this might be a fuse. The car also would have some problems starting as well.

Does anyone know what it could be? I guessed it was the alternator, but how would that affect the revving and the power steering. All the problems i listed happened simultaneously. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!

Lightbulb Re: Harness

Damn that sucks when my car did that i checked all the fuses and relays and it turned out i fried some wires in a harness it was like 125 dollars for the whole new harness but my car is a 91 check everything electrical unless you want to pay money to have someone else check it but most of the time its somthing you can find yourself in like an hour or 2 but good luck....

It seem like you have multiple problems with your car. the idle at 1500 could be an idle surge. the loss of steering, and trouble starting it could also mean bad ecu. the lost of electricity could be alternator going bad or a loose wire connector at the alternator. .

All of those things could be caused by a broken alternator belt, the alt belt drives the ps pump, as well as the water pump. Check the belt.

I know what idle surge is and trust me this is not idle surge its like the car cant make up its mind where to idle at....its mentally retarded...

Yea i think thats the most plausible answer....ill check it for sure...could the alternator belt also effect the idling as well?

If it's broken then yeah you'll be running solely on battery power, it's possible but not for too long.

I second the belt coment. Especially if it all happened at once. Probably the cheapest repair you'll ever make on this car.
