Question Which Exhaust for GS Spyder?

Sup guys,

After doing a search on the forum under "Spyder GS Exhaust" and only coming up with seven threads, I decided I needed to post my own question to hopefully get some straight and most importantly accurate answers.

I'm looking into purchasing an exhaust for my 99 Spyder GS which has a 2.4 ENGINE but am limited as to what will fit and what will be the overall performance. Unfortunately there arent many aftermarket parts for my car I realize that but I am trying to make the best of the little bit that I have. Can Spyder GS owners with 2.4 ENGINES give me some feedback as to what will fit my car and what will be the overall performance??

Also can someone give me a brief definition on the different types of exhaust's (i.e. catback, flo-cat etc.) and the overall benefits as far as performance? I'm really unfamiliar with the different types of exhaust.

This will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just pick out a muffler you like, then take your car to an exhaust shop and have then make you a custom 2.5" pipe from the cat back.

Listen to him, take his advice. There's no need for you to HAVE to buy a name brand. I had an exhaust shop do my entire exhaust. Better bang for the buck.

Re: Which Exhaust for GS Spyder?

An exhaust is just a pipe.... the only difference is wether you get mendrel bent or press bent. Forget about brand names, they are really not worth the extra dough.

Get a 2.5" mendrel bent exhaust custom made from a local muffler shop.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Any idea how much would a 2.5" mendrel bent exhaust custom go for at a local muffler shop?

Hmmm...shop labor does vary significantly state to state. A 2.5" mendrel with a muffler (cat-back) should cost around $350-400. Press bent is even cheaper. Your local shop can easily give you a quote in a few minutes of looking at your car.

I wouldnt pay more then $250 for mandrel bent cat back. I only paid $160 for the cat back section of my exhaust but of course is was press bent 2x I believe. It was worth it not until I find the right shop to do me a full 3in after the big mods take place. Press bent isnt the worse for you though b/c it creates back pressure( good for N/A). I doubt you plan to squeeze tons of HP outta this...do you? If not I'd settle with press bent if you have too and maybe even think about getting it split and having dual exhaust like sphyder has. Looks very nice.

Re: Which Exhaust for GS Spyder?

I paid $117 to get 2.5" pipe from the cat back, and that included new hangers, flanges, and bolts. As long as you take it to a good shop, it will be fine.
