To summarize, an average joe attacks Dr. Dre, unarmed, and lands a punch on the rapper.

In retaliation, another rapper STABS the average joe.

The average joe gets three years in prison for his unarmed attack.

The rapper gets three years (suspended?) probation and eighty hours of community service.

Am I missing some fact that wasn't in the news story, like average joe is a previously convicted child rapist? Cause if I'm not, this is blatantly offensive to EVERYONE who follows laws...because with shit like this happening, what the hell good are these laws anyway?!

(If this came down to "who can pay more for a lawyer, I'm going to be even more pissed off)

Average Joe committed a MUCH lesser crime and got a much stricter prison sentence because A) he couldn't afford an expensive, hi-profile lawyer or B) he doesn't have "friends in high places"

For whatever reason, the rapper got off scott-free (We all know how much probation means when you're a "star" of any kind)

you don't attack someone with a knife unless you want to kill them. if you only want to scare them or stop them from attacking your friend, you attempt to grapple, restrain or attack them unarmed. Or hell, shoot him with a stun gun. There is no (logical, socially acceptable) reason that young buck should have gotten off as lightly as he did!

don't know about indiana, but atleast here in NY, pocket knives are a lot easier to get than a stun gun, and much more intimidating and effective than a fist, and unless you stab the guy like 10 times in the chest, he's not gonna die. Majority of stabbings are done without the intent to kill. I still agree with you, this justice system is VERY flawed, but fuck, there isn't shit anyone can do about it.

Vinnie- It's a lot easier to kill someone with a knife than some people realize. There are major arteries all over the body. If you stab the right place on someone's thigh (close to the groin area) you can penetrate the arterie that feeds the leg....

and you're right, stun guns are hard to get ahold of...that comment was somewhat tongue in cheek.

OK, that would fall under the category of "facts I had missed." I didn't know that the average joe had STARTED the melee.

And Swiggy, the rapper (young buck) didn't defend himself- it was Dr. Dre who average joe attacked.

However, if the average joe was the one that started the fight, this seems a little more reasonable. I'm just sick of all this downright inhuman behavior (scuffling for superiority? showing off for the herd? that reeks of pack behavior.) that goes along with most rappers nowadays

Third party defense is an acceptable excuse so to speak for causing another person bodily harm even if one person's weapon is deadlier than another's.

For instance, if a man swings at a friend of mine with a baseball bat with an obvious intent to cause some serious harm, i am justified in say shotting him with a 12-gauge.

That being said, the problem lies in proving that the person being attacked was in enough danger to warrant the use of a deadly weapon
