What kind of steering fluid?

OK, I've changed the power steering rack twice on my 93 V6. It's starting to leak again through one boot. Am I using the right fluid? The reason I ask is that on another forum (Ford) they pretty much say that using power steering fluid will ruin the seals. They recommend ATF the power steering unit. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Re: What kind of steering fluid?

Check your owner's manual for the right fluid. If you don't have an owner's manual, use the generation 3 sticky at the top of this forum for the information.

Cool

The A/T, Differential & powersteering/cooling fan use the same thing.
Dexron III ATF.
Flushing the system is easy do it. Takes about a quart of fluid to purge the entire thing. That way if you spend $10 & buy 2 jugs of fluid, you can flush the powersteering, changing the differential & draining the transmission.
