Question 97 taurus tranny problem (help)

i have a 97 taurus 3.0 that ran great until last week! for some reason the tranny wont shift up from 2nd and the speedometerdoe not work only happens when its cold once it gets to normal operation everything works great.i got code 0500 speed sensor fault so i bought it no luck i changed the fluid and filter.still no dice any help will do

How many miles are on it and has the ATF ever been 'flushed?' You 'changed' the ATF which replaced about 6 qts, but it holds about 16 qts and you left 10 old qts in the torque converter. The only way to completely get all the old ATF out is with a 'flush' and it takes a special flushing machine to do it. If the valve body gets dirty it can cause shifting problems so when you get it flushed have it cleaned.

Replacing the speed sensor was a good call and I think the speedo works off that sensor to.
