Sti vs. Gt Mustang

This guy wants to race me in spring he thinks his Sti is really fast. The only mod he has is a down pipe. Ive raced him once before i had the catback exhaust and midpipe on my car and it was very close even until about midway through 3rd and he pulled half car and he stayed there all the way through 3rd and then we shut down. Do i have a chance at beating him now? My mods are 85mm maf intake system 75mm throttle body and plenum, borla catback, slp xpipe, and coming on xmas will be a diablo predator flash tuner. I think i may also run race gas just in case but if you have any other suggestions on how i can beat him without race gas let me know thanks.

Also he has absolutely no racing experience on a track and ive been to the track a few times so ive got the hang of the lauch also ive hit a best of an 8.8 now in the 1/8th ive never done a 1/4mile.

if u get a xcal2 or diablo tuner(i reccomend sct) u will probaly take him

i've raced an sti as well as driven one.and they're mean little critters. If you go from a stop i'd say that he's got you just because he's AWD and can do a high-rev launch . while your little struggling for traction he's well on his way. so id suggest racing atleast 1/4 mile so u have enough time to pull him because he will more than likely take u off the line

also a guy with an srt wants to race me now from a 40mph roll he has minor exhaust work done and is claiming 240whp. i beat him sideways from a dig so what do u guys think about racing him again

you should be able to wax a SRT4 (I assume it's the neon thing) but the STI may be a bit harder (2.5L flat 4 turbo 300hp fpr those that don't know) what kinda tires do you have, because the less you loose off the line the better and with his awd you will loose somthing, unless he can't drive and bogs it

i dont know dude, probably the biggest factor here is that youve got experience at the track and he doesnt. the only way he wont bog it is if he dumps it past like 3 grand, but he might be scared to break somethin. soo... i dont know dude. good luck

im going to be running nitto drags possibly having 3.73 it depends on if i find a good place to put them in for cheap cause the ford dealer wanted 630 to put them in and thats if i have the gear and i dont at the moment so it would come to 800 and no way am i payin that much for gears to go into the car its not worth it. but what i am countin on at the track is him sleeping off the line cause he has never raced at a track and i have my reaction times are .512 because at my track if u get better than a .5 reaction time then u redlighted. i am countin on him being in the 1sec range lol so awd wont help him too much to pull back.

like someone already said, u need more than 1/8 mile to eat him. i used to race against my friends sti at the 1/4 mile and he only beat me by a little, but that was prolly cuz he was a worse driver than me. with ur new mods, u should be able to beat him. u should upgrade suspension next. (so ur ready to put the hp down to the wheels with whatever other mods u get)

ohhh! and about ur gears. i have a set with 10,000 miles on them, they look new. if u want them, send me an e-mail. i could sell them to u thru e-bay, or whatever way u prefer. where do u live?
theyre 3.73 for 99-04 GTs make a reasonable offer and ill take it right away

Awh...CRAP!! Good luck man!! You'll need it! I don't know much about the Foriegn cars, but I did read Motor Trend or Car and Driver last year. They tested a Suburu WRX vs. 03 or 04 Cobra (supercharged) and the WRX was right there with the Cobra in everything-braking, handling, slalom, and ofcourse it beat the Cobra in mpg. In the 1/4 the Cobra only beat the WRX by .10sec.

Like I said, I don't know the difference between the STI and the WRX, but I can guess that they are basically the same. GOOD LUCK.

Becareful man, STI and WRX are totally differnt cars (performance wise)...thats like a GT to a COBRA. But definitly do a 1/4 mile run.
