Unhappy I have lost faith in BMW

Hello Everyone,

Yes. It's true I have lost faith in BMW. I have a 1995 525 i and just recently the transmission went out. The kicker is.....the car only has 92,000 miles on it. The mechanics checked everything before coming to the dreadful answer to my question..."Am I going to need a brand new transmission"....."YES", they said.

Has anyone out there been in this same situation......BMW with relatively low milage, but high amounts of transmission problems.

Thanks,
E.

You are beginning to see the light, my friend! You should have bought a Mercedes! My last Benz had 300, 000 + miles without any misfortunes :smoker2:

Every BMW owner I know has had trouble. BMW (unfortunately) has converted many people to Toyota Camry/Avalon owners

I hope that your situation is an anomaly. I have a Toyota Sequoya and a 67 Camaro Convertible (show condition). I plan to sell my Camaro and pick up a new 2003 330 Convertible this fall. Would you recommend looking at Mercedes instead?

Re: I have lost faith in BMW

Definately, erider...
After everything, a bimmer is not a benz. I have a 525i which started giving me trans problems and hasn't been the same since (at 100 k miles)! I lost faith in them since my sisters '02 M3 went out at 72k miles. As for you sfinnerty, I would most definately recomend looking at a benz or even an audi and believe it or not, these days even the jaguar (with the xception of the x-type) is showing the bimmer hell.
what ever the case may god bless you both...

Re: I have lost faith in BMW

I'm not trying to defend BMW here, I finally became,
let's say so 'dissenchanted' with BMW I left dealership service dept.'s for good to be an independent technician and still find myself trying to make excuses for them [ other times not ]. Both BMW and Mercedes have had build quality issues for years, most I my opinion began arround the beginning of the EU years ago, work forces changing, vender pricing 'wars', etc..... I service numerous E30, E32, E36 and a couple of E38's with over 225,000 miles, still going strong. Some others seem nothing but headaches andI'm sure this is true with Benz, Audi, etc... The Japanese still appear to have a lock on quality overall so far but in the long run but they still, feel?,...Japanese?......

Hi erider:

I agree with Jeff B. that Jap. cars will always feel and look Japanese! (LOL, but seriously, he is right!)

But you do know you own one classic quality built BMW, and I am sorry to hear about your early BMW Trans. failure, but I suppose you got it repaired by a certified Mechanic, and if so, you should have no more major problems out of it for at least a couple of 100,000 miles, but that is long you do preventive maintenance plan on your Bimmer, (You might ask someone who works on BMWs for a living, and is far more familiar with most Bimmers than I, but I read somewhere here at the BMW forum, a BMW owner should change your transmission fluid every 100,000 to insure Max transmission life!),

And erider, I do wish you the best!

Sincerely,
Presley348

BMWs arent built like they used to be. I have a 1985 535i and I absolutely love it. I have 200,000+ miles and I have NO transmission problems, nor have I ever.
