The noise usually occurs only after driving 100 miles. This noise comes from the engine area. Noise becomes louder as you step on the gas pedal. When car is in park and you push on the gas pedal you can hear the noise increase in sound. The check engine light has yet to come on and the car doesn't indicate any engine lose of power or Transmission lose of power. All works well accept the noise. Only occurs after driving approx 100 miles and when you shut of the engine and turn back on after 10 minutes it goes away. Dealer ship said they can't find the noise if no check engine light or noise not present. I just don't want to burn up my car if its the engine or transmission. Need some professional advice.
Thanks, Frank |

Re: Car noise need help finding what it is.
Are you sure it just isn't the engine drums. Are you sure it doesn't make the sound while acceleration in general?
If it's not that, then it just might be the vibration in your engine because of the speed. J-bodies don't have the best hold of their engine and if it is vibration (if your dashboard shakes) than just get a simple engine mount.

Re: Car noise need help finding what it is.
Can you describe the sound, metal on metal, grinding, hissing, constant or speratic? All the information you can throw at us will make it easier for us to help you.

Re: Re: Car noise need help finding what it is.
It has happend only 3 times in the last 3 days. I drive 50 miles to work then it starts write about the time I exit the interstate. It's only constant for a short period of time while arrive at work just off the interstate 2 blocks. When I pull into the parking lot and park I push on the gas pedal and you can hear it loud as ever. It's only constant for that time. I then shut off the car and 8 hours later I turn on the car and it not there. I decided to add 1/2 pint of transmission fluid and it has yet to do it again. Knock on wood!! I don't now if that will fix it. I would hate to add another 1/2 my car shows not leak on the road. But I drive 3,000 miles a month could it be possible I'm burning it up.
Thank you, Frank |

Re: Car noise need help finding what it is.
could be the alternator... after it heats up .. and expands the littliest amount something is rubbing/skraping.
next time it happens and someone is with you let them rev the engine and u take a screwdriver and listen for the noise.. then post back where it is the loudest.. it doesnt seem that it is that serious of a sound.. but if your put transmission fluid in and it went away .. maybe it is.. just dont overfill the tranny.. |
