automatic transmission

I just want to make sure that the automatic transmission thats in the 92-93 toyota camry v6 is the same trans as the 92-93 es300? My trans when it shifts, sometimes hits into gears pretty bad, not smooth at all, or like when putting it from park into drive, it hits pretty hard. SOmetimes the trans is smooth when shifting, but alot its not. When I drove a 99 ford escort, the way the trans shifted I though I was in heaven compared to the lexus. Any guesses what would cause this? Oh and reason for asking if its completely the same as the camry is that if I would have to go repalce the transmission, and if the camry trans is the same, then the camry trans would cost me less at a junkyard. Thanks for replying.

Cool

The v6's both use the A540-E A/T. The i4 uses the A140-E A/T.

Flush the transmission fluid & check the kick-down (TV) cable. It may be tightened, or loosened nearly all the way. It should be in the middle of the adjustment range for a normal shift & tighter for a sportier shift.

is this th nut I am supposed to turn? If so, do I back it out?

ALso, when I turn the radio on, the radio matches the engine noise, like a whining sound, when the engine revs you hear it out of the speakers, any idea what that would be?

No man, that's the cable, but you're at the wrong end.

Normally it's EFI interfference from the coil firing. Make sure the engine ground wires are in good condition, and check your spark plug wires. Normally, it's cheap aftermarket spark plug wires that cause it.

Re: automatic transmission

thanks, I did that, the shiftin is a little smoother now since i loosened the cable, but I think it might be more of a tranmission or motor mount problem when it smacks into gear like that. any diagrams on where the mounts are woul dyou be willing to provide for me? Thanks in advance.

Cool Re: automatic transmission

Replace the dogbone mount, if that doesn't fix it, replace the front mount. From there, you may need to get help replacing the rear engine mount, or the transmissin mounts.

Download the '93 factory service manual.

It's in Red and says "Merry Christmas, factory service manuals" They're very helpful.
