96 Blazer starting issue
My blazer wouldn't start today - it was fine at noon, then around 4pm, wife went to start it, you can hear the relay clicking (one of the 3 at the base of the hood), and something whirring near the intake manifold, but nothing whatsoever from the starter.
The weather was high teens to low 20s (farenheit) - I'm wondering if a few good taps with a wrench on the starter might do it? Or possibly it's some more deeper issue. I hooked cables up from my other car, to make sure it wasn't a battery problem, and still no luck. I have read of some problems with the ignition kill in alarm systems - I have a factory installed alarm/lo-jack system. Any tips would be appreciated Thanks! |

Re: 96 Blazer starting issue
Does it Have Passlock? If so, check to see if the security icon is flashing or staying on. If that is the case read your owner's manual, it should start after the third key turn.

No, it's just a standard alarm system - there's a toggle button under the dash - valet switch I guess? Come to think of it, the cheapness of that button makes me think this was installed by the dealership. Although, I would think that if it was some sort of security system issue, I wouldn't be getting any action under the hood. I've had some problems in the past with the ignition lockout, and basically nothing happens, period. |

Re: 96 Blazer starting issue
I'm sorry about not asking what type of system, But the paslock system only turns off the fuel injectors the truck will turn over but not start. If you have a aftermarket security system you should have a paslock bypass somewhere under your dash. One thing that really interferes with these systems are the police radio relays on the street lights. Do you have a two way key fob? Or is it one way?
