d16a1 head on a D15B2 block
Does the DOHC D16A1 head bolt up with the D15B2 block. The car in question is a 1991 Honda Civic hatchback with the 1.5 Dual Point motor.
Has anyone tried this head swap? |

Re: d16a1 head on a D15B2 block
D series is NOT dohc. B series is..the D16 A1 head will bolt to the D15 block yes..d series are all compatible but you need to convert to MPFI because only the B2 uses it (although technically you could use it and bolt the DPFI distributor on and run with that, but you'd gain nothing)

Re: d16a1 head on a D15B2 block
the d16a1 IS a dohc out of a 88-89 integra and DOES NOT bolt on to the b2 block.

THe first gen integra engine (d16a1) this is a d series engine and it is dohc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acura_Integra The second gen integras got the b series engines. My question is does the 1st gen dohc integra head (d series) bolt onto my d15b2 block, does everything line up? I was already planning on the MPFI conversion |

wouldn't say I don't know anything, besides that I forgot the A1 is DOHC? This is probably the first time I've made a mistake on here, thanks for busting my nuts.

Re: Re: d16a1 head on a D15B2 block
If the head wont bolt to the d15b2 block what would it bolt to?
Would it be possible to use the d16a1 head on the 1.6 SOHC non VTEC Block (D16A6). I was hoping that I could use something d series based so that I can keep the motor mounts I have, and there are alot of these engines at the local salvage yard. |

Re: d16a1 head on a D15B2 block
dohc heads will only bolt to dohc blocks and in the d series, i think your only options are the d16a1 and the zc, however im not sure if it will even bolt to the zc block. and it will be hard to find a zc block without the zc head. oh and im pretty sure the d16a1 mounts dont match up with the 88-91 civic/crx anyway. so where that leaves you i dont know, but if you want more power and stock motormount placement just get d16z6 or y8 head and do a minime or something. there still sohc but vtec and will bolt to the b2 block.

Re: Re: d16a1 head on a D15B2 block
It seems the coolant and oil passages do not line up correctly. Some of the members over at http://www.d-series.org/ have tried it with mixed results. The swap requires some machining to be done to work correctly. Seems like the swap would be more trouble than it is worth. Has anyone on here tried this swap?

Re: d16a1 head on a D15B2 block
i know for a fact from personal "attempts" that the dohc d-series head will NOT bolt to any sohc d-series block. reasons are: that the oil passages do no line up to the point of two passages are exposed to open air; and the head bolt holes do NOT line up either.
the reason i "tried" was simple i had a d16a1 motor i bought for the pistons and rods. i had a d16y8 head for doing a mini. i thought of using the d16a1 complete block to save time and $$$, set the y8 head on the a1 block, and presto it was a no-go. since u can put a z6 and y8 head on ANY sohc nonvtec d-series block, then that solves that the dohc d-series heads have to be on dohc d-series blocks. there r three dohc d-series engines that i know of. d16a1, d16a8, d16a9. dohc zc is the a8 & a9.
