Do a search first Folks!

It appears that no one reads the stickies up top, so I'm hoping that they'll read this.

DO A SEARCH FIRST!

I've seen 3 people ask basicly the same question on 4wd trouble shooting just today. And it's still early.

I answered the exact same thing on the first 2, and I hope that no one answers the third person.

There is a link posted in the FAQ sugestions box answering this question.
It will hopefully be transfered into the regular FAQ box soon, or a modified version added.

Plus the same question has also been answered several times by several members here.

A quick search will show you several of these threads.

So please instead of wasting both our time and your own do a search first.

Thanks

Perfect, and thanks man

I agree with you. I've probably answered some questions 50 or more times over again. And I know that everyone here sees the same thing that I do

Re: Do a search first Folks!

It's a good thought, but it won't work. We used to have a sticky at the top of the forum that said "Search Before You Ask Questions!" and no one ever paid attention to it.

There's still one in the Jimmy forum and it doesn't work either:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=493291

They even ask common question in the "Search Before You Ask Questions!" thread:

Re: Do a search first Folks!

we had this problem in another forum, theres always those people who join to ask one question.... a good idea would be to have a limit of replys to threads before you can start a thread, that way if they looking for something right away, their obligated to search

Search First

I agree a search first is the best thing to do.
But like my post 2000 Blazer Won't Start, after searching for hours and not finding a problem just like mine I thought I would ask for Help describing my own Problem. Sorry if that bothers you.

Re: Do a search first Folks!

gorgon is right there.

It never bothers us if people try a search. I've posted a few questions knowing that there were simular questions out there that just weren't the same.

Every problem is a little different as well, ane we are finding new answers to old problems all the time.

I kinda think that it's sometimes a good idea to bring some old related threads to the top with your question

Then we don't end up giving the same answer again, which is obiously wrong.

Re: Do a search first Folks!

Well I feel like an ass right about now.

The boards search isn't working properly right now.

I typed in 97 heater core replacement and I got a message from the board saying

The search term you specified (97) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.

If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

Brian I don't really know who to report such problems with, could you possible relay the message on to the right person.

Or tell me if I messed up. In my opinion the year included in the search is very important

Thanks
