Oil Filter Stud?
Its been a long day. Need help. I have been changing my own oil for a long time. Today has been the worse!!! I have a 99 Expy and got all parts needed for the job. I drained the oil pan, replaced the air filter and removed the oil fliter. But the oil filter was tougher than usual. I always install the oil filter to "hand tight" with no tools. Put plug back in and went to install the oil filter but it would only go on about 2 1/2 turns. I got that filter replaced and had the same problem with the replacement. I went and bought a Fram and still only 2 1/2 turns. I can put the old filter back on with very little problems. And thats what I have done to get rolling again. My questions are:
1: What is the part called that the oil filter screws apon? (hence oil filter stud? ) 2: Can this part be replaced? 3: How did I screw it up when all I used was my hand to install? Any pointers?? Thanks, T

Everybody needs to take a chill pill on the FRAM bashing. The oil study you read isn't nearly as objective as you think. It's an opinion piece that's filled with assumptions and huge leaps of logic. If you want to read the other side of the story, click here:

RickMN- I think you are the one that needs a chill pill. What does your reply (which happens to be the same exactly worded one in another forum,) have to do with the OP's thread? They weren't bashing Fram filters. They were asking for advice on what they did wrong. Next time read the whole thread and all the posts before formulating your reply please.

Go to the hardware store and buy a thread gage metric. Measure the thread pitch then measure the pitch on the filter.
Use a flashlight and look at the threads if a filter was cross threaded this can happen. You can use a thread file and dress up a thread then clean. Look for a place to put a six point deep socket on normally they have a check valve built in the piece. Shouldn't be a hard job to change.
