How the crap do I get that thing out of the nuckle??? Ive got the ball joint remover tool but I guess im not using it right. Never have had to change a ball joint before. I need some help with this one guys asap. My baby is up on jack stands and I hate to see it like that. Thanks

Re: ball joints

as far as i know... if u are replacing the ball joint you can use a ball joint fork to get it out... otherwise i think you take a punch to the back side and just start hitting... (im not too sure how your cars ball joint set up is though)

Re: ball joints

yeah i eventually figured out that my hammer just wasnt big enough. Then i got a ten pound sledge and it came out just fine And i got the old ball joint out of the control arm. However now i cant get the new one to press in. It always goes in at an angle because of the way the tool is setup. Then I have to change to configuration of the tool to press it back out of the control arm and start all over again. Im just walking away for a little bit before i break something....

Re: ball joints

The taper on the control arm right behind the ball joint is causing it to go in crooked. I fought that for a long time, never got it to seat straight. Took my control arms to a machine shop where they used hydraulic press on em. First couple of places I went said they couldn't do it tho, it takes just the right mandrils for the press, and someone who knows how to "convince" it to work.

Re: ball joints

Exactly. However I just got pissed enough to just muscle it in. I tapped it in with a hammer gently enough just to start it in straight. Then I put the press on it and started cranking. It was crooked the whole way but only a little bit. Then at the end it popped in straight and all was well. That was after the 6 hours of struggle though. Hopefully the other side wont be so bad.

I listen to music while doing everything.. it doesn't calm me down it pumps me up..... and hands down nothing calms you down more than throwing a 3/4inch ratchet across the room....

Re: ball joints

You know that part in office space where they take that printer out in a field and smash it up with a baseball bat? Anybody ever do that? I had an old computer that I smashed up...felt great after that.
