Had a oil pump failed that led to an engine lock/breakdown. I now need an engine. Can I look to switch from a 2.4 to a more popular 2.2 engine?
I have a manual tranny. Car has 99K miles which I purchase for 4K 3 months ago. Should I replace with a rebuilt Jasper engine for look for a used engine. Any suggestions? DM |

Re: 2.4 Z24 1999 Convertible need engine
If you go from the 2.4 to the 2.2 makesure you get the cpu to go with it.why would you go from the 2.4 to the 2.2. its slower, and the 2.4 are in the z-24 models. why?

I agree with vamc. If you are getting a new engine why not at least upgrade, not downgrade.

Re: 2.4 Z24 1999 Convertible need engine
Of course, he could be referencing the 2.2 Ecotec, but that swap requires just as much work as the 2.2 OHV swap. Besides, 2.4 motors are everywhere. Search junkyards for Z24s, Sunfire GTs, Grand Ams, Malibus, and Aleros. I'm probably missing a model or two, but just go hunting.
