Maintenance Indicator

As I was turning off my maintenance indicator lamp, I got to thinking... Does the maintenace indicator lamp do anything other than just letting you know that the car has a certain mileage? Any ideas?

Re: Maintenance Indicator

The maint. req'd only lets the driver know a maint. service is due. It comes on roughly every 7500 miles. Maint. is what keeps Honda's running forever.

Well I keep my Honda pretty well maintained... Oil change every 3000 miles, tire rotatation every 7500 miles, fluid changes and etc. Reason that I thought about the light is because I did not see the light come on since the first 10,000 miles. I am now at 53,000 and it came on around then... A bit unusual, but as figured as much. Thanks for reconfirming my understanding.
