4t40e slipping when really cold out

ive had my cavalier for about 2 years now and I noticed last year when it was cold (25 degrees or below) that my rpms were going alot higher trying to take off in first or reverse. The other day the car sat all night and it was 10 degrees out and the car would barely more at all in first or reverse. I don't think there is a common clutch that is used in both first and reverse. Any common probs with these trans. Im going to put a pressure gauge on the trans and wait for it to do it again to see what Ive got. I also have a scan tool and will be comparing the input speed sensor of the trans with the output speed sensor to make sure Its the trans itself and not something weird with the torque converter.
