i have a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan "SE"model, the A/C compressor is shot. could i bypass or eliminate using the compressor by using a smaller fanbelt ?, as i cannot afford to fix it correctly at the moment, thanks.

There is a bypass pulley kit you must put on in place of the compressor. You can get one at Advanced Auto Parts for under $40. You will also have to get a new serpentine belt (one for a van "without air"). Don't let them tell you that your old belt will work (been there, tried that at 4 am in the morning!!)
Hope that helps. I have a bypass pulley and belt I'll sell you if you're interested. Put it on until I decided to fix the compressor. Mine will fit a 3.0 or 3.8 liter. [email protected] |
