FMIC installed and boosting Strong! (pics!)
After 13 Hours of pain and agony I finally got my Front mount set up on my car, and boosting strong! for those of you who dont know, i purchased the core off Ebay for a little over 150 shipped and it is 30"x12"x3" with 3" outlets on both sides.
![]() then i went a purchased 4 "U" pipes (2.5" with 4" Radius) from summit racing for some odd $70. ![]() ![]() ![]() After that i went back to the good old Ebay for some sylicone... i found a 2' long piece for about $20 so i picked that up as well as some reducers from the same ebay store (Sylicone intakes) <*highly suggested!!!* once all that arrived... it was time to get serious... i took a trip to Home-Depo and bought what I call a Galvanized steel Band (like Half an Angle-Iron) and some bolts... and the rest is history. ![]() with the DSM up on stilts it was time to get working... ![]() with the front bumper off i could already see the difference after holding the core up to the front bumper and i decided exactly where i wanted it. ![]() now how the intercooler is mounted: I took the steel Band and bolted it to where i thought a good mounting place would be.... which i found to be just next to the Headlight as you can see from the picture... after a little Geometric thinking, I rigured that i needed two 45 degree Bends to make the core sit right where i wanted it. i took the Steel band and used the edge of the Table and an eyeball to get about a 45 degree angle. i did this for both brackets and you end up with something that looks like this. ![]() thats not a picture of mine, but its exactly the same. After the core was put up on the car and we started to fit the pipse, we noticed that the splash gaurds where going to need to be trimed a little. ![]() *that big yellow box off the the right of the car in the pic is what we used to hold the core up while making the brackets. we put it ontop a few bricks and a 2x4* ![]() now things really started to pick up. all the pipes where installed and we had already trimmed the bumper support brace for the core. (this intercooler set up is with the stock T25 turbo, what i did was cut the stock soft pipe off so it made a L and just added the metel pipe to the end of that id that makes any sence...) after intence trimming and trritation, it was all worth it for this!!! ![]() OH YEAH!!! If you have any questions about anything, i can fill you in, and i have more pics. Special thanks to Ben, and Mac!!! Ben for all the Help with the install and Mac for the beads on the ends of the Pipes! I couldnt have done it with out you guys! Last edited by Black99GST; 12-11-2005 at 11:16 PM. |

Re: FMIC installed and boosting Strong! (pics!)
yeah, if you had DSM Link... like me... because its not really about the boost pressure, its about knock... but with the T25 (stock turbo) i dont think i'm going to go much higher then 15 PSI.

Re: FMIC installed and boosting Strong! (pics!)
let me know how that e-bay core works because I was looking at one to. Also I would like to see how you have your pipes routed because I've been trying to figure out the best way

Re: FMIC installed and boosting Strong! (pics!)
Alright clipsekid99, Thor06 and pr_ricer this is all i could get right now, because its finalls week and i need to study so i dont have time to jack the car up. but i got a pretty sweet set up with the stock Turbo, i cut the rubber pipe off just after the first bend and connected the hard intercooler pipe to that. I'll have to get a pic some time later. but in the mean time...
![]() ![]() In that 2nd pic you can kinda see whats going on with the stock turbo pipe... its just that elbow, then the hard pipe... i bought a 2.5' PVC spacer and greased it up...shoved it into the stock Rubber hose so it would have something to clamp to... |
