95 taurus-- help

Have a 95 taurus 3.0 auto that was wrecked in the front-- It was given to me and went to pick it up the battery was dead so I tried to jump it and it still wouldnt turn-- the car has not been started in a few months Iam told-- Is there something here that Iam missing-- is it possible that the engine is froze up since it has been below freezing for the past few weeks?? Not too sure if this could acctually happen, but anything is possible-- Could you guys give me a hand here I would appreciate it!!!!

Did you make sure you had a good contact with your jumper cables? I'm sure you've hooked up cables before. Did you hear a draw being put on your alt. when the cables were hooked up? Were you using heavy enough cables to handle the current draw being the battery was dead?

How badly was the car damaged? I hope the front wasn't pushed up against the engine. This would cause more problems.

The cables that were used seems like they were maybe like a 6 gauge-- I mentioned about the live vehicle not drawing down It was a diesel that jumped it and I did not notice a draw from the live vehicle--nor, draw form the dead cars alt. We placed the neg. cable on the post as well as frame -- the positive had slight spark from it but not as heavy as other sparks in previous jumps (if that makes sense). Do I have to worry about the weather freezing this motor though??

The car was pegged in front of drivers side tire-- busted that coil spring as far as the front being pushed into motor, doesnt appear to be an issue-- as far as mechanical goes probably a new radiator-- but I do need L & R fenders and bumper along w/hood and L headlight and corner light.

It is very possible that the battery is frozen if the car has been parked for a long time with a low charge on the battery. It can be very dangerous trying to jump start a frozen battery too, so be careful. Do you have a DC voltmeter (multimeter)? Is so, measure the battery voltage. If you see anything under 12 V, the battery may be frozen and is probably bad.

Since you did try to jump the car though and did not notice a draw on the donor vehicle, your starter must not be engaging. If it were, and if your motor were frozen up, you'd notice a draw on the donor car.

After verifying the battery is not frozen, hook the jumper cables back up and try some of the accessories and headlights. Does anything work with the key on? Dome lights, radio, instrument cluster idiot lights? If not, make sure your battery cables are connected to the distribution panel and chassis ground. Check the fuses under the hood to make sure they aren't blown. On the '95, it should be fairly easy to get to the starter. Find some alligator clip meter probes and hang them off the starter power cable. Check for battery voltage while someone else attempts to crank the engine. Do you have battery voltage to the starter?

Thanks -- the battery was --DEAD!!!! I would like to know if there is a book out there though to swap out body panels-- I aquired 2 of these little buggers-- 1 with a blown motor the other w/ a wrecked front end. Is the best thing to do just dive into it-- The reason I would like a book is there is a possibility the frame was bent and I would like to know of a way to verify this-- Thanks
