Narnia

Let me just start by saying that this is just my opinion and mine alone.

When I first saw the previews for Narnia back earlier this year, the trailer just blew me away. Finally something to look forward too after the great lord of the rings (lotr). So finally the moment came to see it and I jumped at the moment to see it with my family. As the previews subside and the movie starts, my hopes are high. But after almost 3 hours, I leave dissapointed in some ways, but so-so with the film.

Call me crazy, but after watching LOTR, it's hard to view any other film today that could possibly do a series of books justice. Peter Jackson took his time in what he was doing and made sure that the audience would be devoured by it's great story, music, and details while at the same time, making a movie around 3 hours or so meeting the demands of long time addicts to the trilogy. Clearly, this is something that Narnia lacks. Having read the books, I'd say that the movie does stay with the book, but lacks the quality to make it a fantastic film.

The first argument I had was the way the story was presented. Having such short time to put an entire book on the screen is a challenge that I understand, but the director should have taken more careful time in making the movie progress smoothly. Alot of rough progression scenes were there. There are times when the movie just lags on and on with scenes that could have been shorten. Vice Versa, their could have been some scenes extended. Examples would be when the children are practicing with their weapons or some parts of the epic battle scene. Everything was there, it just lacked the polish to make it shine with brillance.

But Kudos has to be put towards the music and the CG work. From the first train scene to the battle at the end, the music is great. It gave the movie a grand-like quality and really made it seem like an epic story. The CG work must've been the most exhausting work of the movie as majority of the story revolves around mythical creatures that couldn't have been possible in real life. The lion was probably my favorite as it just looked so life-like. The war scene was great too, but somethings you could tell that things were outta place here and there.

Overall, the actors were good (expect my disliking of the young girl) and the CG was great. The story was there, but just wasn't put to it's fullness as it could have been. It's still good in what it acheives, but just not polished. I think that a few more month's and some more scenes shot this movie could have been a contender side LOTR. I'd have to give it 3.75 stars.

Re: Narnia

i pretty much agree with you on the LOtR issue. My biggest gripe was the CG seemed a little off in up close battles. Actually no, my biggest gripe was Peter...can't he hold a sword right? How is he supposed to lead a battle.
