Do the headlights shut off automatically

Will the headlights shut off automatically if left in the on position. The tail lights remain on, but the main headlamps shut off. Correct?

yes, they are intermitten. on then off and so on...i already replaced i pin in the splice block into the firwall and the headlamp swith due to a burnt off wire. it worked fine for 20 min then went out without warning then came on 45 seconds later and goes back and forth inconsistantly?? ?
