92 rodeo rear end clunk...

Hello all, I have a 92 rodeo 4x4. I have been expierencing a slight "clunk" or "popping" noise in the rear when I take turns, like going around corners and such. After Ive turned and am starting to straighten back out is when I seem to notice it. It definately sounds like it is coming from the rear, and you can feel it a tad. Very quiet and hardly noticeable to anyone else, but very annoying to myself. I was wondering if any of you had any idea what this may be, or have expierenced the same problem. I was thinking possibly a rear wheel bearing? How hard are those to replace on these and what are the symptoms of them going bad? Thanks guys...I hope you can help me!

Probably ring and arbor, Mine is starting to wear on my 92 also. What will happen, cant tell when, It will sieze and break. If you have 4WD, you will still be able to limp home, but if you have the 2WD version, get to a mechanic, repairs are anywhere from 700 -1500 dollars, I would expect to pay more, if you have the anti slip differential. I dont have it, so it wont be too bad for me.

Re: 92 rodeo rear end clunk...

so does this mean a whole new rear end or what? I wouldnt be taking it to a mechanic to do, so what kind of money do you think we would be looking at? I have 4wd too so that isnt really an issue. What is yours doing? Simular noises?

Mine is just moaning right now. Its at the early stages right now. but will be needing it at some point. Whether you need a new rearend or not, I can not say, but I can tell you this. Do not go used unless you know excatly how many miles are on it.

Check your springs! I just went through this ordeal, where I got my car back from the mechanic and when I went over a bump, it sounded like the rear end had fallen off. Turns out that a broken spring worked its way free. Also, I was speaking about the ring and pinon, not arbor, you need an arbor to get it out.
