just got one

Hey, i am new to the supra forum. I just bought a 87 supra hatchback turbo. it is the 3.0 dohc turbo motor. it has the glass top and 121,000 miles. The hole car is in GOOD shape. it is a 5 speed and has a new clutch in it. it is not even broke in yet. It is all stock execpt for the cd player, and a coustome exhaust. I payed $2,000 for it. Did i get a deal?

Yeah its not bad. What kind of shape is the motor in? When was the last time the head gasket was replaced? At 121,000 its probably time for one. Pop a metal unit in. Do not get a standard felt head gasket. The 7MGTE is notorious for blowing them. Get the turbo checkd out too.

head gasket was replaced at 100,000 and the turbo was check and said it was in great shape, no play at all. Motor is in good shape anly thing i may have to replace is the timing belt.

Re: just got one

who says the stock HG doesnt work? i have seen with my very own eyes supras with the stock HG putting off more than 550rwhp no problem. all that has to be done is make sure it's sealed on tight, and torque'd down to arond 95lb with some ARP studs, and you're good to go. im actually going to use this set up on mine.

MHG's are great, but the machining has to be done to a near-perfect level, which is hard to get nowadays. sure, u can use sealants, but they dont guarantee that it will seal forever.
