(continued from previous post)I am working on the electric shift on the transfer case on my 1996 K2500. I replaced the shift mecanisim and it still blew the fuse so I did some more testing. with the shifting unit not bolted to the transfer case but still pluged in it operates (moved to different positions when I press the button). I also used a wrench to operate the transfer case. I can put it in and out 4x4 with ease. but as soon as I reassemble the parts as it should be it blows the fuse. why is this so ?? any thoughts would be apreciated. also can any one recomend a good mechanic in the redbank /oldbridge area of NJ. thanks

Joe: It's best if you keep adding to the same post as we can all keep up with the history. Take the plug off the encoder motor that has a red and a black wire in it. Test both these wires for a direct short to ground. Test the corresponding pins on the encoder motor for a direct short to ground. Beyond that, get the vehicle scanned for trouble codes and/or replace the TCCM (from previous post).

would you believe the problem was at the back of the fuse panel. I took it out and there was a pin like the ones on the back of a badge thats some how got in there and was causing a short.
