1997 Dodge Stratus ES

Hi! I have a 1997 Dodge Stratus ES 2.5 6Cyl. My "oil light" recently came on. I had an oil change on the 5th and on the 7th my oil light reappeared again. I went to " Jiffy Lube " to check to see if their was any oil pressure and they said there was. So I was told by many mechanics and auto stores that it could be a faulty "Oil Sending Unit". I then checked this forum and got alot of input.

I've decided that I would replace the "Oil Sending Unit".

I disconnected the battery of course and removed the OIL FILTER because it was in the way. I then replaced the old "Oil Sending Unit" with the new; along with the "Oil Filter". I ran the car for awhile before driving it. After the car was well warmed up, I drove it around the city and the "Oil Light" came on again.

What should I do? Is their another reason why the "oil light" came back on? Should I just disconnect the battery again to see if it resets the codes or will it just go away on its own with time.?

I have no leaks................

Re: 1997 Dodge Stratus ES

I have a 98 Dodge Stratis ES Mine did the same thing. But I was told by the dealer that I needed a new oil pump. The cost would have been 2000.00. So we parked the car. We had the money to take the car to another shop they put in a timing belt and other broken parts. The light stayed out until it warmed up. We parked the car again. I was told that if it was the oil pump that the distance that the motor would have froze up. Another shop told me to put Lucus oil in the motor the light went off. BUT one month later I lost all the oil in the car. When I got the car home my 19 year old son checked the oil sending unit again and it would not go back in where it came from. He took off the oil filter and a part fell off on his face. Turns out that the oil bracket unit (it cames off the car) was broke where the oil sending unit goes. When we replaced that part and put the sending unit back in the oil light no longer cames on and the car is fine. It is a tight fit where this part is so if you don't have small hands than it is going to be hard to get to. The part and the gasket cost 85.00 at the dealer. Check out that part and see if that is ok. Good luck.
