Farewell to Shaw Lake

Well, the Shaw Lake trail beneath Steven's Pass in WA has been closed for logging. It was an awesome run and will be missed. Chip and I took a farewell run along its entire length http://www.ozxterra.com/xcursions/shawlake.html
and then revisited right before its closure with Brett & Joe http://www.ozxterra.com/xcursions/sultan.html

That's a damn shame, that's some nice technical 'wheeling there!

Better check those wheel bearings. Sitting in a running river like that over your hubs has prettygood potential for fouling the grease. Where is that river anyway? I recognize everything except the river.

I'm really confused about the trail closure. there hasn't been any info on "shaw lake" getting logged. That seems pretty stupid for the BLM to allow. Is it just the road, so they can log other areas around it?

trucks doin' fine as always. It needed a wash.
I dont think you and Chip went down that other trail with the river - that was closer to Steven's Pass. They are seperate trails within 20 miles of each other.

There is a big gate closing Shaw Lake and the road is being flattened for large trucks.

That's so fucked up. Shaw was one of the best difficult/intermediate trails in Washington.

Guess this guy is going to lose his home.

More pics

I checked the 4x4NW mailing list and there was one mention of the closure and then it turned into a rant about Highrider being bypassed by mall-trucks (The waterfall at highrider is just "a bit" difficult) for Xterras.

High Rider is still open. The picture "Tire View" is actually taken out the front of it. It is in bad repair right now. I would be suprised to see even some of the bigger rigs make it now let alone "Mall Trucks."
