70 Olds

I'm doin a 70 Olds on commision.

Here's my rough pencil which I'll use as a template in Illustrator.

The image is about 15 inches long so I scanned it in 2 chunks and put'em together in Photoshop. I see a lot that I'll correct in Illustrator but I'm reasonably pleased with the template.

Re: 70 Olds

Looks great man, but I can see where you photo chopped it, there's a gap in the bottom of the front tire. Lol.

lol....wrong!!

See the mis-alignment? I was lazy...Illustrator allows me to be that way. The gap on the tire is there because I didn't remove the tape off my light table and when I tranfered this from my really-really rough...well

nice try though

Re: 70 Olds

What a great "rough" sketch.

What's the body color? Any stripes?

Re: 70 Olds

it's actually a Cutlass so the body is blue the top is white and there's no stripes...bummer.

The wheels have the body blue color though.

I did my initial rough rough sketch then transferred it. On the transfer I did the body first. then I scanned in the wheels and blew them up about 115% Then I printed them out alone. then I transferred the new large wheels onto my drawing. I lowered the body a little too just to get a better stance.

came out well.

Re: 70 Olds

I'll post some of the reference in a bit.

The customer on this one gave me some clues during the photo shoot. She told me what parts of the car her husband loved. She talked about the long line down the side so I made sure to deviate a bit from the reference and add some emphasis to that area. I alos made the wheels larger and added some funk to the rims. In general even if I am working from a photo I end up stylizing so much that it turns into an entirely different thing.

I transfered this one 3 times to get to this point, and after it comes out of Illustrator it will be further removed from the reference.

The ability to freehand came through imitation for me so at this point I can pretty much go either way with similar results in time and finished piece.
