01 Dakota trany probs

I Need help...
I have a 2001 4.7 the other day my truck felt like i got hit in the rear.
my light came on and it felt like i only had my 4th gear.It would not shift
any gears I unpluged my - wire for a few hours and the light went out any the trany drove fine. then about a week later the light came on and it only had the long gear. What does this mean plz help me.

definately sounds like a computer problem....next timethe light comes on get a scan tool hooked up 2 it and see what it says

could be the input or output sensors on the trans.
