95 Roadmaster themestat

Where is it on this vehicle and what has to come off to get to it?
Vehicle runs great but in 10-15 minutes temp gauge is in the red. Need to shut her down. No leaks. Oil "change" light stays on now? Seems like top rad. Hose from top of rad. is hot but the bottom one is just mildly warm?

To change the thermostat, you first should drain some antifreeze from the radiator so you don't make a mess when taking off the thermostat housing, ( I couldn't believe how much antifreeze came out when I did this on my car.) Then you need to remove the air intake duct. the housing for the thermostat is located under that. Undo the 2 bolts that hold the housing down and lift off the housing. Depending on the year, some thermostats used a gasket to seal, while the others used a rubber ring to seal. I believe pre '94 used the gasket, while '94 and on utilized the rubber ring. Place the new thermostat spring side down into the engine. On the earlier models that used a gasket, you may also have to remove the radiator hose to the housing to make it easier to reinstall the cover. You can leave the hose on if the thermostat uses the rubber seal. If you use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts on the cover, the correct torque is 21 ft-lbs. To me, this is still a pretty simple procedure to do, unlike many of the newer vehicles on the road today.

You also need to remember to bleed the air outta the system with the bleeder screw. This is very Important with an LT1 engine.

The bleeder screw is located on the thermostat housing, near where the radiator hose attaches. Use a screwdriver to open/close the screw.
