why does it stall?

my car is 2003 with 52 000km on it. i bought it new. it has always had a small problem with a rough idle once in a while. it would just try to stall while sitting at a light. last night it was the worst ever coming home from work. it would stall at every light while sitting there and waiting. i had to keep on the gas to keep the revs up to keep it from stalling. the engine light does not come on. it is still under warranty and i'm taking it in today but the dealer said the problem must happen when he looks at it. but it only happens once in a while this problem. any thoughts??

sounds like maybe your car is running rich or lean, has your gas mileage been affected at all recently? also, if it has been doing this from the factory, there could be a problem with the programming of the computer in which case there would be no check engine light on.

Re: why does it stall?

Could just be the IAT sensor too. It never stalls while accelerating? My 03 is doing the same thing and I planned on replacing the IAT sensor first. I guess I could take it to the dealer too and have them decide what needs to be done.

never stalls during acceleration. only when it sits and idle like at a stop and when u downshift and the rpm's get low it will start to stall. is your 03 a standard? the dealer said they had the standards doing this
