Engine question

I want to do an engine swap in a civic ex....between the years 96-98 (still looking to buy one). I'm thinking about a B16, somethin basic, i've heard from guys that i can do a B18 easy but i want to keep everything pretty simple. Plus i found a turbo kit that's a straight bolt on, unless anyone knows a turbo that can be a direct bolt on for a B18? I live in Sacramento Cali so there are plenty of shops willing to do swaps, and i'm waiting for most of them to get back to me on prices for a swap. ANyways i'm wondering if anyone has any links or anything for a complete B16 (DOHC, VTEC, tranny, mounts? along with anything else i'd need) or even B18...what have you guys paid for a complete swap? I want to do a turbo but i'm not up for paying the $95 an hour labor to bend piping for a 20 hour custom turbo. I found a couple B16's outta Japan for $3500 + shipping - tranny. Can anyone beat that price? or have somewhere that includes a tranny? DO i even need to swap the tranny? I'm a to the engine swap thing, it makes sence that i'd need to change the tranny but not sure....

That price for the B16 sounds a little high. I know you can get a B18C1 delivered to your house for about $3,300 (shipping included), and I would prefer the 18C1 over the 16.

And yes you will need a new tranny.

Re: Engine question

You would also be better off changing that civic from obd2 to obd1 because there isnt much tuning capabilities and stuff for a 0bd2 car from what i hear...

I was looking into a b16 while back and found a local shop selling a complete 0bd-0 thats 88-91 tough for 1300 or so on everything...But i didnt wanna go back to 0bd-0 i never asked them on there 0bd-1 setup...Shouldnt be much more tough..

B18 is a simple swap in a Ek hell we used all stock mounts and had to make a new hole in rear motor mount to fit the bolt but that was a little drilling...

Goodluck to whatever you do tough...

you just have to look around man, like here on ebay is a gsr motor for $2,000 buy it now price and less than $250 for shipping.

It says it was imported from japan, but it wasn't. it's a gsr motor, not the type r.
But there's just one of many good examples.

edit- or just buy and strip this car

Re: Engine question

0bd-0 88-91 i beleive,0bd-1 92-95,obd2 96 up

If you get a Ek civic that would be obd-2 since its 96-up, I had talked to a guy while back on tunning and he said theres not really any tunning capabilities for 0bd-2 so if you wanna build a good motor and get it tuned for the mods you have you would be best getting a jumper harness 0bd2 to a 0bd1 so you can have your engine tuned to the mods you have...
