Re: 4x4 is not working help

I cant help you with your problem but never, never, NEVER step up the amperage on a fuse unless you like your truck extra crispy..I know that 5 amps isnt a huge differance but its still not a good thing to do.

There is a solinoid that actually engages the system, sounds to me like that's your problem

on the outside of the transfer case their should be a device with wires going to it the wires come from the switch on the dash. When you push the switch it engages the solinoid which engages the four wheel drive. Once engaged the solonoid is automatically shut off like a starter. I've had two friends who have had a similar loss of four wheel drive, both times it was the solinoid. I agree with korndogg that increasing the fuse is a bad idea as the fuse is blowing for a reason, like the solinoid is staying in the engaged position, and the high current causes it to pop the fuse.

Grego12,

On my friend's 2000 (Serria) it was a unit actually attached to the transfer case, Lying on your back under the truck it was on the upper left side he said, he can't remember the exact cost, but it was under $100.00.

Re: 4x4 is not working help

You need to give a better description of you vehicle IE automatic tranny or not ,motor ect. Secoundly go buy a repair manual at autozone or somthing and use the trouble shooting tables or look up that section for the transfer case and look for the specific name of the part if its not a selanoid then it may be called a actuater rmotor or something you just need to do a little work yourself. somebody will respond soon..i don't know but i have a manual tranny and i don't know if i have the same transfer case as you..did you get under your truck and look for it?..jj

Re: 4x4 is not working help

You've got a bad ass short somewhere. I guess it could possibly be the switch shorting out.
