fuel filter troubles with quick connector 99 Cavalier

I am having problems replacing my fuel filter. 1999 Chevy Cavalier 2.2. Got the new filter, can't get the old one off. Nuts on metal fuel line loosened just fine. It's the plastic quick connector that's the problem. The outer coupler broke, and the catch part is stuck on the inside of the fuel line, keeping the fuel filter attached. How can I remove the fuel filter? Worst case scenario, I can replace the nylon fuel line from the filter to the fuel tank. But that goes up into a cluster of other fuel lines. How can I remove the filter so I can install the new one and drive my car?

Quick connector seems to be not quick at all.... This is a real pain.

Any tips appreciated.

Yeah these are real pains.Chevy put a helper connector on it and it really doesn't help at all!You say its broke,if memory serves me the line is black plastic and has a yellow sticker on it that says caution flammable
fuel or something like that. I think that line can be disconnected on further away and bought at your chevy dealership. Hope this helps. Jacob
