Ka24de

I am turning 15 next month and it is time to start thinking of a car. It is still unclear of weather or not I have to pay for my own car, but it is never bad to be prepared. I had my eye on the S13 bodystyle 240SX, one because it is cheaper than the S14, and I prefer the looks anyway. My question though is about the KA24DE. I have heard that the KA24 over the years came with a SOHC head and a DOHC head. If that is true I assume that the SOHC came out later in the 240’s run. So if that is also true that means if I purchased a S13 240 I would have a SOHC KA24, so I am wondering if it possible to swap a DOHC head onto the SOHC block? I can’t afford a SR20 so I am planning on turboing the KA. It has more cubing inches and an Iron block, to me that sounds like the better choice. Help Please!

So yeah oor no on the head swaps? Or anyother ideas? Remember I don't have a lot of cash, so an RB30DET is a bit out of my reach

Re: Ka24de

nope heads dont match up, and if your only turning 15 next month, your gonna have another year before you get your license. I wouldnt think about turboing. Once you get a car you'll find out how much things really cost, and its not a recommended thing to have a first car being turboed because 1)Your just a begineer driver, 2)You've just got your license, cmon everyone knoes dont deny your gonna do stupid things...

Re: Ka24de

Turboing a KA is ganna be just as expensive as getting an SR.

Re: Ka24de

I know that as a teenage boy obsessed with cars that I probly will do something stupid, but if you knew my mom you wouldn't speed either. I am going to turbo the car myself, I have a nfreind who is older (60) and he is teaching me how to work on engines and hopefully this summer I will get to work at my other neighbors shop. I would just buy stainless tubing, a turbo, an intercooler, and a muffler. I would make the intake, intake manifold, turbomainfold, intercooler tubing, downpipe, testpipe, exhaust, roll cage, etc. Whenever I talk about tuning everyone automatically assumes I wan't to be paul walker, and that my car will be built of to 10,000HP in the first weekend... NO. I do understand self-control, however I do have enough cash to get my car running well relatively quickly. Oh and sorry about that double post.

Re: Ka24de

You won't be making all that stuff yourself. What's the point of having a turbo if your not going to speed? My car is plenty of fun under 60mph in NA form. BTW, you will need some kind of fuel management if you get a turbo, you didn't seem to factor that into your list.....and a rollcage???

Re: Ka24de

My friend said he would teach me/just do it to make all those parts, providing my first mod is a cage and 4-point harnesses. I think its not too bad of a deal considering what a mechanics class of the classic F-stuff up until you learn method would cost. Bigger injectors, 300ZX fuel pump and either a new or ported fuel rail are musts. I have a friend who can reflash my ECU and dyno-tune my car. What do you mean I won't be making that? Can you? Don't go by that if I can't do do it then you can't then you can't either mentallity. Have faith in kids, you do know that AF was started by Igor when he was 14?

Re: Ka24de

and i started rebuilding turbos when i was about 13, im 16 now and i have a 240. My dads a mechanic who works at a machine shop and i can practically get anything made, or make it my self at work for almost free. Plus ill be building my own hybrid T3/T4 turbo since i rebuild em alot i have alot of extra stuff....even with all this, which sounds like just as much, if not more than what you have...i still cant afford to go turbo, nor do i want to because i know ill probably end up dying. I figure ill save up for a year or more and then turbo. Either way, its your choice on your car. Just remember to do it right the first time with a reliable setup, and be safe!

Re: Ka24de

just for the record (btw im not dissing anyones car here). Stock cars are great...specially fun when you first get them...but you can never...ever...ever...compare a stock car to a tuned one. under 60 isnt half the fun in a 140whp car compared to a 250 or 350whp one...the thing you can do with power makes that ride that much funner. (or suspension, becuase power isnt Sh*t without suspension)

Anyways, fine, do it, come back when you will have made all the piping and manifold yourself. Also, I still don't get why you want a rollcage and harness.
