alternator noise

My alternator just started whining on me. Is there any way I can buy some time or should I get right to the parts store before it messes something else up?

Re: alternator noise

Alternator whine is a common problem. It usually indicates the start of a problem and not imminent failure. I had a Chrysler minivan that the alternator whined for 65K and was still doing it when I traded it off. So I wouldn't run to the parts store just yet but that decision is up to you.

Thanks, I just wanted to know if these were known to fail immediately like some.
