lower intake manifold
I have what seems to be a leak around the lower intake manifold(coolant). Is it a major job to replace the upper and lower gaskets on a 1999 vortex 350? How do I accomplish this task?

Re: lower intake manifold
It is easy.Mark the distribitor before pulling out,the timing is not adjustable. You set the distribitor with a scan tool.Go with the updated intake gaskets from Fel Pro,the updated intake gaskets are made out of metal instead of plastic and the part number is MS 98000 T for the updated intake gaskets.Fel Pro has the best fix for the intake gasket problem on the vortec 350s

I know there are a few lower intake manifold threads, but I thought I would pick this one to ask a question...
Although the other threads make changing the gasket sound like fun ...I had my mechanic replace my gasket last weekend after I spent the prior weekend replacing the water pump and all of the hoses. He still has my Suburban and has had to tear the engine apart twice now since the first time he had a bad gasket and the second time, my engine developed a "tick" Anybody else out there ever develop a "tick" after doing a gasket replacement to help me understand what my mechanic is missing OR did to my engine? Thanks '96Suburban w/ 350Vortec |

Re: lower intake manifold
In case anyone wants to know, a 10mm nut imbedded in your piston head will make a "tick"...
