Angry Someone might be upset

In Va. we have to have a state inspection done on our vehicle once a year. I went the other day to get mine inspected and lo n behold I got a rejection sticker. I am not upset with the rejection at all. I knew the ball joints and idler arm needed to be replaced, but they got me for lug nuts also. Back in Oct I had to get a new set of tread for the Jimmy. 3 studs broke off and I had to get 3 new studs and nuts. Well the tire dealer that put the tires on got em. I questioned the guy doing my inspection as to why the nuts were rejected(thinking they were off) and he told me they were the wrong type. So I went to the local parts store and checked on the nuts. The only thinkg aftermarket they had were what was on on my vehicle. The only difference I seen in the nuts were the news ones were a little shorter than what came on the vehicle. Now the guy that did my inspection is a tire dealer also. I am wondering if he might be a little upset with the fact that I had tires priced with him and decided to go somewhere else to get the tires. I just feel llike it was a nit and pick deal.

Unless the lugnuts don't seat properly or they're loose, I really can't see how he failed you for inspection. I would take it to another inspection place and see what they have to say about it.

Re: Someone might be upset

In VA, the State Patrol oversees the state inspection stations, as the inspectors and inspection stations have to be licensed through the State Patrol. So, if you think an inspection station is screwing you around, call the State Patrol Division that oversees the inspection stations in your area and ask them to clarify things for you.

I had a problem with an inspection station hitting me for a headlight adjustment every time I went in for an inspection. (every 6-mo’s back then) After about the third time, I took my rejection sticker and contacted the State Patrol. A Trooper met me at the inspection station, checked out what was going on, and my headlights passed without any adjustment. Some inspection stations are honest, but a lot aren’t.
