SS\SC Vs. NSX
I went out hunting tonight, and I caught me a good one. It was a black, mid-late 90's NSX. He zipped passed me and the thing sounded pretty mean, it definitely had exhaust work done. I decided I was not gonna pass this one up and followed him after he made a right turn. After following him through moderate traffic we made another right ended up right next to eachother with about a 1\2 mile clearing of traffic. I'm to his left now and I look over at him, he downshifts to 2nd as do I and then I wait for him to make a move as we're cruising side by side, doing 35 or so. As soon as I hear him punch it, I hammer the throttle and instantly start to pull a door on him. He starts to gain some of it back though but with a shift to 3rd i put him at my rear bumper. Then with a powershift into 4th i put a half car or so on him. We stopped around 115 or so because traffic was coming up ahead...
I'm going to have to cut this one short and continue tomorrow at work when i have more time to write all this out. The rest gets much better. Part two coming soon... ![]() SS/SC Vs. NSX Part two. Right after this run he hops on a freeway frontage road. It was two lanes, straight and empty...perfect. I pull along his drivers door and pace him at around 35 mph, waiting for him to make a move, which he didn't do right away. I blipped the throttle for a sec to let him know I was ready, then slowed down again. This caught his attention and when he pulled about even again he punched it and so did I. I pulled him to my rear tire right away and was still pulling slowly untill I crashed into the rev limiter at the top of 2nd gear. This gave him just enough time to pull up and get a nose out ahead of me. With a shift to 3rd I gained back my space and pulled him even, then at around the end of 3rd he started to get a couple inches on me. Finally with a shift to 4th I started reeling his nose in again. We were now doing 115+ mph and we were about dead even when we had to shut down because of the light up ahead. We pulled next to eachother at the light and I rolled my window down for a little chat with the guy: Him "That thing is pretty damn quick. I'm impressed" Me "Thanks dude, your car looks clean as hell" Him "Thanks. What have you done to it?" Me "Just a cold air intake and the carbon fiber hood" Him "Nice. This thing has a cold air and exhaust. How much boost are you running?" Me "Stock 12.5 psi or so" Him "Dang dude, that thing moves. I've got a twin turbo at home if you wanna run that" Me "What kind of twin turbo" Him "300Z with big turbos running mild boost" Me "Haha, no thanks dude. That's more than enough to whoop my ass." He took off once the light turned green and I followed, hoping to get one more good run in. We traveled behind him for a mile or so, then he stuck is arm out of his window and signaled for us to follow him on his right hand turn to head North. This pulled us into and empty street that was bordered by warehouses and office buildings on either side. He stopped and signaled for me to get into the middle lane onf the 3 lane street which put me at his driver side. He said you can usually get one good run in on this road and it's clear all the way to the end. The road was about half a mile long or so and it was a perfect spot for a run from a dig. Then he said "I know you wanna kill yourself an NSX so lets do this." I line up next to him and get ready. He says "Third honk and we go" I said "Alright". I rev her up to about 1500 rpm and wait...Beep, beep, beep and we're off! I slip out the clutch a bit and hold it at half grip, praying to not get my wheel hop. No dice, the tires start jumping off the steet, but I don't back out of the throttle and it pays off. At about 20 mph my tires bite down and I dump the rest of the clutch and hammer the throttle. To my suprise I got a decent launch and he hasnt rocketed passed me. We're about dead even all through 1st and with a shift to 2nd we're still about even. Both cars are screaming but even with the window down I can bearly hear his exhaust from my side of the car over the m62 whinning away. Now with a shift to 3rd I start to slowly make ground on him. When we shut down at 110 or so I've put his nose at my door jam...hell yeah, that feels pretty good. We turn left at a stopsign and he follows behind us and then pulls along side again. He yells out "That shits' impressive dawg! Be safe! I'll see ya around" and with that he turned into his neighboorhood and we went our seperate ways. He was a very cool guy and this was easily the best set of races I've ever had. I really wanna meet up with him again. On a side note, he was driving solo while I had my g/f in the passenger seat and I was also running 87 octane because I'm cheap. Lot of fun fishing for races. I think I'll look for more tonight after the track...

well it depends on what year. its hard to tell which year is which becasue the 5 speed 3 liter nsx's only traps 102mph. however the new 3.2 liter 6 speed nsx's traps 106-107mph. so i would say a 5 speed nsx being beat is pretty believable.

106-07? Damn I didnt think the NSX was THAT fast. With those trap speeds shouldnt it be in the high 12s?

I don't think it's true. Look at this:
Car-Stats.com Report for 1998 Acura NSX Obtained from C&D August, 1998 0-60: 4.5 Transmission: Unknown 1/4 Mile: 12.9 1/4 Speed: 110

If this section of AF is about street racing stories, then I really could care less if the story was about a UPS and Fed-EX delivery truck race where they are neck and neck at 50 when all of a sudden a DHL truck blows both of them away because he got his deliveries done early and had less weight. well i just doubled checked car stats.com and yes the 6 speed nsx does indeed trap 106mph. and yes they do run 12's in japan because they weight less. a NSX type S zero actually weights around 2900 lbs and runs 12.9-12.8's all day.

Re: SS\SC Vs. NSX
Wow, that was a good race. So you're basically tied with a NSX. I'm surprised though that he didn't eat you alive on the launch, considering that he was mid-engined. It also sounds like you were doing much better on the shifts than he was.

Actually his shifts were right on. I couldnt even really tell when he was shifting, which is a good thing because it ment there was no lag inbetween his shifts. The dude was a pretty good driver, was in his late 20's or so.

My personal best is a 14.69 @ 98 mph 2.4 60' I also forgot a couple important details from the conversation I had with the guy. He said he's putting down about 240-250 whp with his mods which leads me to believe it was the 3.0L version and that would make it around a 94-96 NSX. So mid 90's was about right. These cars were rated at 270 bhp from the factory, but I dunno if they actually came with their advertised ratings or not. Either way, it's still an awesome car and it's a good thing that it was the older version of the NSX or it wouldn't have been much of a race for me.
