2001 Silverado LS Cabin air filter Change

Ok, SO I bought a cabin air filter (Bosch). I get home and there are 2 filters in the box? The box says "Air Filter" not "Air Filters".

Ok, so how and where do I replace this filter? I just bought the truck in august so I am still learning the ins and outs.

Any pics would be helpful because I do not even see where this thing could "possibly" go.

BTW, you only need 1 (one) filter right? Or is there 2 in the cab?
Thanks

i am pretty sure the filter goes under the passenger side dash, behind the glove box. but you have to take it out and put it in from the bottom of the dash. i have never done this but i remember a old discussion about it on here.

There are 2 in the cab. One is the easy one..that you can get to. There is another waaaaaay back under the dash. I can't remember where, jusr reach around and you'll find it. but it was hell to change them when I worked at the service station.

I also changed mine out today, and they were in similar condition. Got it done in under 15 minutes, and the only problem I had was getting the one screw back in that giant black shield thing. The screw i am referring to is the one that is over the hump in the floor

Yeah I had hell with that one, I ended up taking filters out with kick panel lowered, without removing that one hidden screw. All I needed was a 1/4" wobble socket adapter which I did not have. I didnt feel like making a run for it.

A 1/4" drive deep socket works great for that one screw.

Re: Re: 2001 Silverado LS Cabin air filter Change

There are charcoal filters available. I didn't find out until about a week after I replaced mine with filters from the dealer. I'll go with those next time since I sometimes smoke in my truck. The originals were black and had tons of leaves etc too....

Re: Re: Re: 2001 Silverado LS Cabin air filter Change

Got mine off ebay and just installed them.

Holy Crap this is nasty!
02 silverado; these are the original filters on top of the new ones in the bag... and yes; there were leaves and other things (that used to crawl) were found in the chamber and in the filter

If u haven't changed them; do it!

(A little hint) the 3rd socket that's a pain to get to can be undone using a 9/32 deep socket instead of a 7mm (I don't have a deep 7mm and a regular socket + extension was too long to get in there.)

What class of Fungi is that???? I dare you to take that to a Health Center... better yet, see if the CDC can classify that!!!

Now I know why I miss having them in my '05....

Re: Re: 2001 Silverado LS Cabin air filter Change

No fungii or other spore related tingies in there. They're seed pods from the trees in the parking lot of the building where I work.

But yeah; considering limited off road stuff and no smoking in my truck; I was quite surprised about what was in there.

I did kinda freak out though.. It took me a while to install these; irst I vacuumed out the whole truck; detailed the interior; and then did the air filters. All with the radio and cabin lights on. When done; I went to move my truck and the battery was too low to start.

I waited for a neighbor to come home; and I went out 2 hours later and the batt had recovered enough to start.

I thought I pinched/broke a wire under the kick panel... Thank goodness I ddn't.
