1984 300zx non-turbo 5 speed question

I was wandering if someone could tell me a little about the idle-up adjustment screw. Correct me if I am wrong but isnt the other adjustable screw next to it have something to do with the air adjustment? If so is there any specific amount that they should be adjusted to. In other words is there any time they should both be open or closed at the same time? I am just trying to find out if my car is adjusted where it should be. Thanks for any help.

alright, well on the idle up solenoid there's, as you know, 2 screws... the one on the left side of the unit is for the FICD adjustment which is for the A/C operation... i believe the more you open that one up, the higher the engine will idle when the AC kicks on. the screw on the right is the actual idle speed adjusting screw... this controls your idle speed when the engine is under a heavier load due to running electronic components or your PS and oil pumps.

as for adjusting them, it really depends on what you like your idle speed at... obviously it shouldn't be any more than 1000 rpm or under 800ish with the a/c on... so that's a pretty close thing to shoot for... not sure with the a/c off, i'd assume somewhere around 800-850.... this is all with the engine fully warmed up of course.. the following chart gives you a pretty good idea..
