Question ~~Load Knock from TOP of Engine~~

I just bought a 1999 Volkswagon Passat V6 2.8L last and there is a load knock from the top of the engine.
Do we try and give it a head job or buy a new motor for it?
We have been looking for engines and can't find one any cheaper that
1500. This car is killing me.
The in dash radio, speakers in the door and Cd changer in the trunk are
missing.
Gosh...what to do...list it as is and sell it on Ebay..?
I need someone with VW Passat experience. I heard that once the
nuts come off the threads are junk.

Re: ~~Load Knock from TOP of Engine~~

you sure it needs an engine..

faulty water pumps on these v6's cause a knocking noise.
cam chain tensioners are a common problem also and pretty simple to replace.

i dont think ive ever seen a bad v6 motor before... there usually pretty reliable (other than cam seals... damn vw and not using oil control springs)
