2001 Taurus no hot air

The only problem I have is that no hot air blows. Can someone tell me what to check and how plz. This new cars are more senetive than my 72. Every now and then it will blow hot air but that is mostly cold air.

From your profile I see that you'r from TX. Why do you need heat in TX??? Just kidding.

Have you check your coolant level?

Is your engine getting up to temp?

How long has this problem been hapening?

Hee ya, Texas but right now it been cold cold take it back up north please.

This has been happening since the begin of Sept. of this year just to check. I just blows cold air now. I have not flushed the raidator yet. I does blow good hee. Please help.

After your car gets up to running temp, feel both the hoses going to the heater core. Is one hotter than the other?
Sounds like you have a clogged heater core. Heater cores have to be flushed separately from the rest of the cooling system.

I had the same thing happend with our 98'...spend a ton of $ to get it fixed and ...still not much heat. I think the problem is that the "flapper", which changes the direction of airflow inside the heaterbox , wont' go into the right position to let warm air go in to the car.

michller84- did you check to see if both hoses going to the heater core are hot when the car is up to operating temp?

The Taurus is notorius for having no heat problems. There are a few different items that may be the culprit, and the following will help you pinpoint the problem. The first thing to check will be the blend door. The door operates off of the temperature control potentiometer, which is the rotary dial on the dash that you use to adjust the temperature between hot and cold. As you adjust the setting, the door moves to blend non-heated air with the air passing across the heater core. Turn the ignition key to the run position without starting the car so that the ac/heat control is powered up, select a heat setting (floor, vent or any other combination of heat setting that doesn't involve defrost, because the ac will run in the defrost setting), turn the fan on a medium setting. then move the temperature control setting back and forth between cold and hot while pausing at each for a few seconds. You should be able to hear a difference in the air flow as the blend door moves back and forth. If you can hear the change in air flow, the blend door actuator and linkage are in good working order. Next, start the car and let it get up to operating temperature. Once there, check to see if the heater core inlet and outlet lines get good and hot. If not, the heater core could be plugged, but not necessarily. If the lines do not get hot, pinch the bypass hose completely off with a c-clamp or whatever, run the engine rpm up to around 3000 or so and hold for a minute, while at the same time checking for hot air or to see if the inlet/outlet lines start to warm up. If you start to get heat at this point, the problem is the water pump impeller vanes are so eroded that the pump will not move fluid through the heater core. I know because I just changed one out for my friend and I have never seen anything like it, and believe me when I tell you that I have changed out my share of water pumps over the past 40 years. I have since learned from a Ford engineer that the coolant they were putting in these vehicles was very corrosive. The pump changeout is straight forward and relatively easy to perform, and thew pump will only set you back about 30 bucks. If you didn't get any kind of heat with the bypass pinched off and running the rpm's up, it is highly possible that the core is plugged. Shut down the engine and let the car cool down. Then remove the heater core inlet/outlet lines from the bypass line and attempt to flush the core and lines(including the steel tubing) with water. If you do not get any flow through the core at this point, it is the problem. Make sure that you perform all of the above steps before taking the vehicle to some garage for repairs. The heater core replacement is very involved and requires removing the entire dash from the vehicle. If you take it somewhere and tell them that you don't have heat, they may charge you for the 12 hours that the repair manual calls for to replace the core, but only do some other minor repair to actually get your heat back. i had the same problem in my 98 just now... replaced the thermo just for preventive maitnence and did a full coolant flush... then flushed the heater core and ill tell you the second i blasted one end it was like the blob climbing of the other end of the hose... nasty shit in there man.... after that it blows nice and hot so that was my problem the whole time.... good luck on yours

There is a relay just inside the glove compartment door. You will need to empty the glove compartment and pull it all the way down, press in the tabs on each side of the glove compartment sides and it will release. The "Relay" is inside to the left. It is about 3" wide and 5" long (black). The wires plug into the bottom. Turn your car on and let the temp gage get up to Warm Position and turn on your heat. At the same time, unplug the wires from the Relay. Wait a few seconds and plug them back up. This will "Reset" the relay. Your heat should work then, if this is the problem. Just a suggestion. It worked on my 2001 SEL with Auto Climate Control. Let me know it this works...
