Angry Rear window go boom

Hi folks

My wife had an exciting day in CO yesterday. She started her 04 VUE, turned on the heater, got out, closed the door, and about 5 seconds later, the back window exploded outward.

I'm 100% sure this is due to pressure, but I know my Jeep (96 ZJ - Grand Cherokee) has pressure relief vents on the rear quarter panels. Is it possible that the VUE doesn't have these vents? Or are they located down low where they would be prone to splashback and potentially clogging (massive design flaw, if you ask me)?

Another variable here was extreme cold - it was about -2*F here yesterday. That's what made me wonder if the pressure relief was clogged with ice and snow.

Appreciate any insight any of you may have.

Jim

Re: Rear window go boom

the Vue is equipped with relief valves in the quarter panels. may have been because of extreme cold that glass shattered.

Thanks for the response. That was the general response I had received from another forum. I was thinking of going after Saturn for my deductible (still under warranty), but I think I'll just swallow my pride and "eat it".

Thanks!

Thumbs down Re: Rear window go boom

You resurrected a thread from almost 4 months ago to flame somebody about calling -2 extreme cold? Pretty silly...and lame.
