the problem is most likely the CAS problem from the swap, that happens to alot of the 6-bolt swaps.

I would be a tad skeptical for two reasons.

1). The remark the guy made about sun spots. I would take a long hard look at the car and see how bad that is. A professional paint job these days runs $2,000+.

2). The car isn't currently running. Project cars are fun but definately not for everyone. Are you good with motors? Is cash flow decent for parts and possible labor assistance? These are things you need to ask yourself when you buy a car that is not drivable.

I'm not trying to discourage you though. If the car looks good enough close up and in person then I would still buy it. Just make sure you use the paint imperfections as a bargaining chip to reduce the sale price.

Not necessarily true. If you buy the paint (I had 150 dollars in enough corvette red paint to do the car and then some.) and know someone who can do it (I have a friend that's a professional and only charged me 600 dollars to do body work and paint it.) then you should have no more than 1000 in it at all. My paint job turned out incredible on my car for only 750 dollars.

Don't let bad paint keep you from buying this car. The more important factor would be the engine and finding out what the true problem is. Body work is the least of your worries when buying a car.

That's a lot of "if's"

If you don't have any inside connections then just going to a body shop and saying "paint my car x color" will cost an arm and a leg (if you want it done right). That's like someone saying they have a lawyer in the family so legal expenses don't always have to be high.

If he has some connections then that would be awesome. But most people don't.

If he has to pay $2,000 for a paint job and say $1,000 for engine repairs then that $3K should be taken into account when making an offer. But if he does have connections like you did then that makes the car more appealing still. But he still should take the full cost of a paint job and use it as a bargaining chip

I'm not saying it was or wasn't. I don't know the person who painted your car nor have I seen your car. There was a guy who was all over TV a few years ago named Earl Shive. He was this old guy who was famous for saying "Riiiighhttt, I'll paint any car for $99.95". But if you actually went to them for a paint job they used the worst paints, skipped a lot of corners and basically gave you "your moneys worth".

To go to a professional body shop and get the real deal paint job. I'm talking stripped, primed and professionally painted (including back of hood, inside of doors, ect) it'll cost alot of money. But again you will get what you pay for. I know because I shopped around a year ago to have my car painted.

Everybody knows someone who does something good for a living. I have no friends or family that is a autobody specialist so I would have to pay full price for dent repairs or painting. But I work for a guy who buys and sells realestate for a living. He has many properties that were bought through bank auctions. Needless to say I didn't pay for my house what it's worth on paper. Having connections is definately nice.

I know. But when I posted I was playing the odds that he doesn't have that kind of connection. I'm not saying you are wrong. If his uncle happens to own a body shop then he's got it made. But odds are he doesn't and should look at all possible costs attatched to this car.

Unless he's willing to leave the paint job as it is. That's a whole different ball game.

I really dont care about the paint and all body since I can fix it for cheap and besides i might buy a new body kit and paint the whole thing for around $300 . What worries me is that its not running because of a electrical problem. Its says ECU but why hsnt he fixed by now ? Not that hard to fix at all. If it doesnt sell in a week then it will be mine.

If you buy it and get it running then post up on what needed to be fixed or replaced to get the car running. I for one would be curious to see how it turns out.

Paint it for $300, how do you plan on doing that, unless its maaco (Who I've heard SUCKS. Just as Darren talked about your "moneys worth", I've heard they apply to that scenario)
