major coolant leak

i posted a post the other day about a supercharger leak after further investigation i ahve come to the conclusion that it is coollant and not supercharger fluid. my opinion it is better then supercharger fluid. but there is a puddle forming under my car and watever the prob is it is leaking or some how getting on my belt and is sprying it all over my engine bay. now the first thing i thought was the water pump...wouldnt we all. but i thought hard and remembered that 4 months ago i remember a very small coolant drip like maybe 2 drops a day. which leads me to think its not the water pump because to my knowledge the water pump dosent gradualy go out it all the sudden does. so im thinking that maybe i had a bad line and then with the sudden temp drop and the salty roads it just pushed the line past the limit. if anyone knows wat the prob may be. lemmi know. its coming from the left side right where the belts are.

I have a 1994 3.4 DOHC, not sure what you have, but on my engine there is a pipe that twists and turns from the water pump to the heater core. Right where it makes a 90 degree turn, close to the waterpump, passenger side, towards the front of the vehicle, mine developed a leak. Mechanic said it happens all the time. I've had this happen to me twice already in 6 years. Reach down when the engine is cold (very cold, let it sit overnight) and run your fingers along the pipe. You should be able to feel if it is all corroded and soft. If it is, you need a new one. Mine cost $160 with the labor included.

Not sure what year you have but I have a 1994 GTP and I just had to have the line ruunig from the water pump to the heater core replaced because it started leaking. Mine was leaking from back by the fire wall where the pipe 90's and comes back up from beside the wheelwell. When I would add coolant it would just run right out. Back side of the pipe where it was bent was rusted right through.

Re: major coolant leak

IF the leak is on the passenger side, it's a waterpump. The water pump is one of the few weak areas of the 3800 series engines. If you take the belt and water pump pulley off, you should see seepage from the "weep hole" and there will most likely be freeplay in the waterpump hub as well.
