Just a quick question intrepid not starting.............Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 99 intrepid, it starts OK when the car is cool. In the
mornings...one turn of the switch and the car starts..it takes me to work, the car sits all day..one turn of the switch and it starts, drives home perfect. THE REALLY BIG PROBLEM IS THAT I CANT TAKE MY WIFE SHOPPING....The car will not start if I turn the motor off for a short while. The motor turns beautifully but will not start. If I wait any where over 40mins the car starts right back up with just one turn of the switch. I have diagnosed the PROBLEM AS: THERE IS SOMETHING UNDER THE HOOD THAT NEEDS TO BE REALLY COOLED DOWN FOR THE CAR TO RESTART. I HAVE GOTTEN SO GOOD AT THIS, THAT NOW WHEN I STOP FOR A SHORT TIME......I OPEN THE HOOD AND WHATEVER NEEDS TO COOL OFF....COOLS OFF A LITTLE BIT FASTER BECAUSE THE HOOD IS OPEN. ONCE THE CAR STARTS IT DRIVES PERFECTLY...DOS'NT SHUT OFF ON ME. NOW..I REALIZE I CUT MY WAIT TIME TO ABOUT 20MINS BECAUSE THE HOOD IS OPEN. I AM FIGURING THAT THIS HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH SOME SORT OF COIL OR SENSOR. I HAVE ALREADY CHANGED THE CRANK SENSOR, CAM SENSOR, SPEED SENSOR (BOTH), MY COOLING SYSTEM IS PERFECT, NOW I AM ABOUT TO CHANGE THE OXYGEN SENSOR, C02 SENSOR, AND OIL SWITCHES. I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO FIND THE COIL. my starting problem is nothing like i have been reading for other people MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON, NO CLICKING SOUND ENGINE TURNS PERFECT.. JUST WONT START WHEN HOT. PLEASE HELP MEEEEEE. |

Re: Just a quick question intrepid not starting.............Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it sounds like you're getting vapor lock in your fuel system, that is, when it gets warm, the fuel has a tendency to vaporize b/c of the heat. Once the heat goes down, it can maintain the pressure it needs to start-up. I'd suggest having your fuel pump checked out and have a pressure test done on the fuel system, known as a leakdown test. Normal fuel pressure should be around 45-50 psi +/-5 psi. If it drops more than 5 psi in one hour, you've got a problem either in the fuel pressure regulator, or pump itself. The ironic thing is that if your pressure regualtor goes bad, you'll have to replace the fuel pump anyway since it's attached to your fuel pump module inside your fuel tank.
