Load humming noise.

I have a 94 thunderbird LX with a 4.6l V8 - This sound recently started when it got cold. Once the car starts it's find. Whenever the sound is going my car runs 200-500 RPM's higher and the second the sound stops my car goes back to normal RPM's. It DOES do it when I'm driving but it seems that after the car is warm the sound goes away.

The sounds like a long mono-toned hum when you're in the car but when you open the door it's much, much louder. The sound is cumming from under the hood, it seems like the driver-side but I've not been able to open the hood quick enough before the sound goes away. One of these mornings I'm going to open the hood BEFORE starting the car.

Anybody have any ideas on what this could possibly be?
