89 Escort Brakes

Recently Changed The Front And Rear Brakes On My Escort. Now It Is Extremely Hard To Stop The Car. The Brake Pedal Use To Be Real Responsive To Braking, Now It Is Hard To Push Down. Almost Like Something Is Blocking The Pedal. It Takes Longer For The Car To Stop Also. I Have Looked At Some Old Threads And Located The Brake Booster. Is There Any Test That I Can Do To See If This Is Bad?

Re: 89 Escort Brakes

Its sort of like a test as you are driving. If the diaphragm is leaking it would react like a vacuum leak. At a stop light with your foot on the brake the engine will speed up or slow down and miss or die. If it's not doing this then take it back to your garage and take the vacuum hose loose from the engine and the brake diaphragm. There is a check valve in the hose. You should be able to blow a flow of air towards the engine, but not towards the brake booster. If you can blow air both ways or not either way replace the check valve and hose.
